THE Demons will monitor a number of players throughout the week as they prepare for their Round 17 clash against Adelaide.
Charlie Spargo continues to take positive strides after a scapula injury and was back in full training today.
“He’s ramped up his contest work and shoulder strength. He’ll train again at the end of the week to be available for selection.”
If selected, it would see Spargo play his first AFL game since the Round 11 victory over the Sydney Swans.
Performance Camp | Day 1 | The Amazing Race
Performance camp kicked off on a fun note, with the boys competing in an amazing race across Bright.
Blake Howes and Harrison Petty both entered the AFL’s concussion protocols following head knocks in the loss to the Suns.
“Howesy sustained a knock in the first quarter and failed his HIA assessment,” High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith said.
“He’s recovered well and entered stage one of the protocol - we’ll monitor his symptoms day by day.”
Petty was also assessed after an incident in the second quarter and will continue his progression based on his symptoms.
“Petts’ has integrated well into the start of his concussion protocols. Given it’s his second concussion this season, we’ll be cautious and see how he progresses.”
In the VFL, Marty Hore suffered a shoulder injury early in the match.
“He hurt his shoulder at the start of the game. He was able to continue playing, but it kept getting sorer, which is why he didn’t finish. Follow-up scans have shown he’s ruptured his biceps tendon in the shoulder, and after consulting with a surgeon, it’s been recommended that we get it repaired.
“Unfortunately for Marty, we’re unlikely to see him again this season,” Griffith confirmed.
Meanwhile, Oliver Sestan has returned to full training after a hamstring issue and is tracking well.
“He’ll continue to train fully this week and next, with the aim of returning in the coming weeks.”
Aidan Johnson is also progressing after ankle surgery.
“He’s back running and now building through agility and reconditioning work,” Griffith said. “He’s a few weeks away.”
