MAX Gawn is on the precipice of greatness.

The 34-year-old has been selected in the 2026 All Australian squad and if chosen for the final team, he will become the first player in league history to receive nine All Australian jackets.

Gawn has been a class above this season, showing that age is just a number when it comes to ruck craft.

He’s averaged career-high numbers across the stats sheet including an average of 21 disposals and six clearances.

Gawn has been praised for his leadership this year in particular, captaining a team through a new era under coach Steven King, the Dees set for their fourth finals series in the space of six years.

Livewire Demon Kysaiah Pickett has also received a selection in the extended line-up, acknowledgement for another standout season. 

Following his first All Australian selection last year, Pickett has further settled into his role in Melbourne’s midfield, his quick skills and explosive energy hard to match.

The 25-year-old has averaged a career-high 22 disposals and four clearances while maintaining his impact in front of goals, kicking a total of 28 across the club’s 23 games.

The squad, which was announced on Monday afternoon, includes 46 players across the league, who have been deemed the best in their specific role.

This year’s squad has been raised from 44 players to 46 to better reflect two teams within the group – two lots of 23.

The final team is chosen by a panel of selectors with 23 players to be confirmed tomorrow night at the 2026 AFL Awards.
