It hasn't been an easy fortnight for Melbourne's Daniel Ward, but the AFL probe into gambling is at least nearing its conclusion and assistant coach Mark Riley is one of many curious as to how the league will handle the situation."We're just sitting back and awaiting the AFL ruling. He's obviously been pretty nervous and we're giving him all the support we can, (but) we're just waiting to see, I suppose like the wider football community, the consistency of the ruling," Riley said before training at Bulleen on Thursday."We'll see what happens and see what the AFL comes up with between the gambling and the drugs and that sort of stuff."We're all waiting to see what the consistency of judgement will be. We all have our personal views, I suppose, on the seriousness of the crime."But while Ward's immediate future is unclear, the Demons will most certainly be in Mount Gambier to take on Adelaide on Saturday after club officials gave the facilities and the playing surface the thumbs up recently.Having been dumped out of the NAB Cup by Hawthorn in round one, Riley was happy to hit the country trail of the NAB Challenge and maintained bowing out of the Cup early was not necessarily a bad thing for the team's preparation for round one."We've been in this position before and yeah it's good playing in front of the crowds on the big grounds and whatever, but that also has it's downside too," he explained."We can now sit back and assess people, but you take your own intensity into the (country) games."We've been to Lavington and played St Kilda in previous years which was a pretty hard match, so I think the intensity is brought about by how you take on the game not the arena you're playing in."The Dees will fly in and out of Mount Gambier on the day and Riley promised those who were planning to attend that the club wouldn't be fielding a virtual reserves side."Because our preparation is pretty well planned out, we'll rest a couple that played against Hawthorn and we'll bring a couple of new ones in. It'll still be a very good side that we take over there, but we'll give a couple of young kids a go," he said."A couple of mature players will come in for their first games (of the year) and a couple of mature players will be rested. We'll finalise that after training today, but it'll still be a pretty good team."The line-up will definitely not include young gun Brock McLean who has suffered a slight setback to his pre-season and will be rested after sustaining a quad injury.
