THE 12TH CHAPTER IN THE RIVALRY
This Saturday’s semi final will be the 12th installment of the Adelaide and Melbourne rivalry, first born in the inaugural season during Round 6.
Since that first season, the two teams have built a strong and long-lasting history against each other, over the course of 11 games, including three finals. Of the matches played so far, Melbourne has been crowned victors on six occasions.
Saturday's do-or-die match at IKON Park is the scene of yet another emotion-filled battle. Adelaide are coming off a dominant win over St Kilda last weekend, while Melbourne are looking to bounce back from a Brisbane defeat. Both teams vying to keep their seasons alive and move on to the preliminary final. It's bound to be a clash not to miss.
LAST TIME WE MET
Round 7A, 2024 | Adelaide v Melbourne | Norwood Oval
Melbourne pulled off one of the upsets of the 2024 season when these two sides last met.
After a slow start to their fixture, with only two wins on the board, the Dees travelled to Norwood Oval in what turned out to be a tight tussle, ending in a two-point win for the travelling side.
It was a low-scoring, pressure-filled match that saw Melbourne's defenders spend much of the game under the pump. Sinead Goldrick and Eliza McNamara were both standouts in defence across the ground.
Georgia Campbell and Alyssa Bannan kicked the only two goals for Melbourne, but both proved to be enough with the Dees securing the win at 2.4 (16) to 1.8 (14).
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Kate Hore
We saw last weekend that Kate Hore will do absolutely anything to get her team over the line. Despite a standout display from the Melbourne captain – 31 disposals, eight clearances and a goal – it wasn’t enough to push the Dees over the line.
Despite the loss, it was clear that Hore was as determined as ever to secure her side a finals win as captain. Her impact across the ground is undeniable, having cemented herself as both a star forward and a tenacious midfielder. If the Crows are able to restrict the Dees’ skipper’s impact, than that could be difference come Saturday.
Chelsea Randall
Chelsea Randall may have missed much of Adelaide’s season this year, but her return to the team proved crucial last weekend, the veteran defender pushing her side to an elimination final win over St Kilda.
The former Crows captain provides experience and leadership for their backline but also, we know Randall can in multiple positions across the ground, so has the potential to provide an impact on the game in across various roles on Saturday.
