THIS week will see the club and country celebrate NAIDOC Week, an important reminder of the impact and achievements made by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

Each year, NAIDOC Week is celebrated in the first full week of July and this year’s is a particularly special milestone - 50 years of honouring Indigenous voices, culture and resilience.

The 2025 theme is The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy. The theme acknowledges both the impact of First Nations Elders over the past 60,000+ years, but also recognises the strength of young First Nations leaders, who are moving forward in powerful representation of their communities.

To give Australians opportunities to further learn and celebrate the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, NAIDOC Week offers a range of events held across the country. We’ve collated some events based in Victoria that fans can get involved in, check them out below: 

NAIDOC Narrm March
Date: Friday 11 July
Location: Beginning at VAHS on Nicholson Street, Fitzroy
Time: 10am  
Details: Each year, Victorians come together from across the state to march from the VAHS building in Fitzroy to Federation Square in the CBD. This year, following the conclusion of the march, a Koorie Heritage Trust NAIDOC Market will be held at Federation Square alongside NAIDOC in the city - a free celebration of music, culture, and community.

Painting Working with Chrissyray Weetra
Date: Saturday 12 July  
Location: Bayley Arts, 1 Avica Street, Highett
Time: 1:30pm – 3:30pm
Details: Christinaray Nadya Weetra is a Warumungu and Arrente artist, and is hosting this special NAIDOC workshop designed to bring people together to learn about traditional painting techniques and the meaning of cultural symbols.

Connections to Home | Coming Home Exhibitions
Date: Saturday 31 May to Sunday 10 August   
Location: Koorie Heritage Trust   
Details: The Koorie Heritage Trust is proudly presenting two solo exhibitions across NAIDOC Week that explore connection, family and culture. Barkindji and Ngiyampaa Elder, Uncle Colin (Col) Clark and Yorta Yorta and Baraparapa artist, Dr Jenny Murray-Jones are the two talents behind the creation of these exhibitions.

Our Warrior – The Story of Robbie Thorpe | ACMI Screening

AHV's NAIDOC Family Day

Location: Aboriginal Housing Victoria, 2 Watts Street, Thornbury
Time: 10:30am - 2:30pm 
Details: Aboriginal Housing Victoria is hosting a NAIDOC Family Day - a community event that features live music, dance, arts and crafts, storytelling and a free BBQ.
