MELBOURNE’S stocks will remain bolstered by the news that Georgia Campbell has re-signed with the club until at least 2027.
The emerging ruck and forward has become a key part of the AFLW program, having played 20 games across three seasons.
Originally signed as Melbourne’s first ever Father-Daughter selection (her father, Adrian, played two games for the Dees in 1993), Campbell came on board following the 2021 AFLW Draft.
Melbourne’s Head of AFLW, Marcus Wagner, praised the 21-year-old’s commitment to the Dees.
“During her time at the club, Georgia has constantly impressed coaches and players with her willingness to grow and improve as an athlete and teammate,” Wagner said.
“We are delighted to secure her signature, regarding Georgia as a player with unlimited potential.
“It’s been fantastic to watch her maturity and professionalism develop and we can’t wait to see her continue to flourish in her role.”
Campbell expressed her excitement at remaining in the red and blue, and a reflection on her time so far.
“I can definitely tell we’re going in the right direction. This has been a really big off-season for us…and seeing all the hard work it’s made me so excited for the years to come,” Campbell said.
“I was quite shy when I first came in, but being a ruck I’m the first voice that needs to tell everyone where I’m going to hit the ball, so I’ve grown in confidence and leadership.”
She also shared her hope for the season to come.
“As a team, I hope we put our best foot forward, play with confidence…and put in the hard work which has already been happening in the last few weeks.”
Averaging 13 hit-outs per game, Campbell has continued to build her skills and ruck craft. She will be aided this season with recently retired ruck star Rhi Watt returning to the club as Ruck Coach.
The exciting news of Campbell’s re-signing comes as following the announcement that midfielder Olivia Purcell has also put pen to paper with the Dees.
