AFL set to throw support behind FightMND's Big Freeze 8

On Monday, the MCG will once again become a sea of blue, all in the name of Fight MND.

The league’s eighth annual ‘Big Freeze’ match, which highlights club great Neale Daniher AO and his fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND), will officially make its return to the home of football during Round 13.

The Queen’s Birthday event is one of the biggest on the football calendar and sees the AFL community come together to help raise funds and awareness for Fight MND.

The game will see Collingwood face Melbourne at 3:20pm (AEST), with the much-loved Zurich Walk to the ‘G making its return alongside the fan-favourite slide, as willing individuals prepare to take the icy plunge in support of the day.

The Big Freeze 8 beanies are available to be purchased nationally, with proceeds going towards research and initiatives to find effective treatments and ultimately a cure for MND. They can be purchased from your local Coles, Coles Express, Bunnings or via the FightMND website.

Zurich Walk to the 'G returns

For the past two years, Melbourne fans have been forced to miss one of the most-anticipated events on the Demon calendar, the Zurich Walk to the ‘G.

This year, the famous journey will make its return on Monday 13 June, and the club is encouraging all its members and supporters to get involved.

The Zurich Walk to the ‘G takes place each year ahead of the Fight MND Big Freeze match, a game that has seen the entire league get behind Melbourne great Neale Daniher in his fight against Motor Neuron Disease (MND).

This year, the trek will begin at Federation Square and supporters will walk towards the ‘G via Daniher’s Way, a walkway named after Daniher, acknowledging the significant impact he has had on both the AFL and wider Australian community.

The day will begin with a number of exciting activities at Federation Square from 11:30am including Q&A’s with current Melbourne players, past players, club president Kate Roffey and Bec Daniher.

Zurich will be handing out red and blue flags for all Dees fans to show their support throughout the day, while the Demon Army will also be at Federation Square cooking up a barbecue and raising funds for Fight MND, with thanks to Coles who have provided products.

Fight MND will be selling Big Freeze 8 beanies ahead of the walk, with the hopes that a sea of blue will be headed to the ‘G from 1:00pm.
