ON Wednesday afternoon, the Demons secured the services of former St Kilda player Luke Dunstan.

Joining the club as an unrestricted free agent, Melbourne said it was thrilled to have added more midfield experience to its playing list after the retirement of Nathan Jones and departure of Aaron vandenBerg.

Dunstan will be bolstering Melbourne’s young midfield joining the likes of Norm Smith medallist Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The 26-year-old is coming off an impressive season, averaging 25 disposals over 12 games and finishing the year on a high, polling 11 votes in the Brownlow Medal.

Having played 116 games for the Saints over eight seasons, Dunstan said he was excited to join the red and blue, particularly during a time when the club had seen recent premiership success.

“What’s happened in the last week is obviously pretty exciting,” Dunstan told media on Wednesday.

“I feel personally that Melbourne’s list has been set up to succeed over the next four or five years.

“So, it was obviously one of the main things that attracted me to the club.”

Dunstan said he was looking forward to getting started at Melbourne, believing that his best footy was still in front of him.

“I feel like I’m coming into the prime of my career,” Dunstan said.

“This is a refreshing change and restart, and I’m really excited and looking forward to it.”
