IN: Pick 17, 37 and 49
OUT: Future first round selection (2022), Pick 33 and Pick 45

MELBOURNE has been involved in a four-club pick swap, securing Pick 17, 37 and 49 in this year’s National Draft.

The deal involved Adelaide, Western Bulldogs and St Kilda and saw the Demons give up their future first round selection (2022), Pick 33 and Pick 45.

“We have today been involved in a pick swap that sees us back in the First Round of this year’s draft,” Melbourne’s List Manager Tim Lamb told Melbourne Media.

“We have used our Future First Round selection to secure Pick 17 which is an enhanced position from where our pick would have been as a result of us winning the premiership.

“It has always been our philosophy to try and improve our draft hand every year with a focus on the first round and this deal is in line with this strategy.

“This selection sees us having a total of five first round selections in the last three seasons. We have also maintained a strong position in the middle section of this year’s draft.”

This strategy has been used by Melbourne in 2015, securing Clayton Oliver and Sam Weideman, in 2019 securing Kysaiah Pickett and most recently in 2020, securing Jake Bowey and Bailey Laurie.
