Dees never made Ross an offer
By Grant Baker

MELBOURNE Football Club powerbroker Garry Lyon says he never spoke to Ross Lyon about leading the Demons. Lyon sensationally quit St Kilda last night and will sign on as Fremantle’s new coach today. The Dockers sacked Mark Harvey yesterday. There had been much speculation in recent weeks that Melbourne had made a big-money, five-year offer to Lyon - with some reports earlier this week saying a deal was imminent. But Garry Lyon last night said he had never had direct dealings with Ross Lyon. “There was never an offer made to Ross Lyon by the Melbourne footy club,” he said on the Footy Show.

Dees deny coach offer
By Jared Lynch

MELBOURNE'S acting football chief Garry Lyon has denied the Demons offered Ross Lyon a widely reported five-year deal, saying his club has not been scooped in its hunt for a coaching trophy. Lyon said last night he had never spoken to the former St Kilda coach and found media reports to the contrary laughable. "I'll just be really clear about that. We didn't speak with Ross Lyon … there was no deal ever put on the table - that's just been a joke that has ran out of control over the past couple of weeks," Lyon said on The Footy Show.
