Mick Stinear will remain as coach of the club’s AFLW team.

Stinear, who has coached Melbourne’s first two AFLW seasons, has guided the team to third on both occasions, narrowly missing out on Grand Final appearances.

General manager of football operations Josh Mahoney said Stinear was a fine young coach with a promising future.

“In a period of change with the introduction of the expansion teams it is great to provide some stability in key roles within our AFLW program,” he told Melbourne Media.

“Mick has led our AFLW program from the beginning, he is well respected within the industry, is a great teacher and relationship builder and we look forward to him continuing to improve our program.

“We see an advantage having Mick working across both our men’s and women’s programs, AFL and VFL, to ensure that we are all aligned and integrated under a four teams model.”

Stinear said he was delighted to continue in the role and grateful for the opportunity.

“I’ve loved the opportunity to be involved in such a quality club,” he told Melbourne Media.

“We feel like we’ve established a really strong and healthy women’s program, within the club.
