MELBOURNE Captain Max Gawn is inviting football fans, runners and supporters across Australia and Ireland to join him in taking part in Jim’s Jog, a month-long virtual fun run honouring the legacy of the late Jim Stynes while raising funds for the Jim Stynes Foundation.

Powered by McLardy McShane Insurance Advisors, Jim’s Jog will run from November 1 to 30, with participants encouraged to collectively amass 17,234 kilometres across the month – the distance from the MCG to Sally Gap in Dublin.

Gawn is - literally - following in the footsteps of Stynes by running his iconic pre-season trail at Sally Gap, as well as visiting other significant sites in the 1991 Brownlow Medallist’s life, as part of a trip to Ireland in November.

100% of each participant’s $30 registration fee will go directly to the Jim Stynes Foundation, supporting its delivery of youth leadership and wellbeing programs, as well as providing access to sporting opportunities and positive health outcomes for young Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Gawn said he was excited to reconnect with his former mentor by visiting his homeland, whilst gaining a further understanding of the man that played such a pivotal role in the early stages of his career.

"Jim's impact stretched far beyond football and I was certainly a beneficiary of his willingness to always put others before himself,” Gawn said.

“Jim's Jog is an opportunity for people to come together, get active and support the incredible work being done by the Jim Stynes Foundation.

“I call on anyone and everyone to sign up, challenge themselves, and help us cover the distance from the ‘G to Sally Gap.”

The virtual event is open to people of all ages and fitness levels, allowing participants to take part wherever they are in the world. Participants can walk, jog or run at their own pace, while logging their distance and raising funds for the Jim Stynes Foundation.

Those participants who raise at least $500 will go into the running to win a signed Max Gawn guernsey.

The first 500 people to register will also receive a free limited edition Jim Stynes Foundation bucket hat.
