MELBOURNE could be bolstered by the return of three Demons this week with Daniel Turner, Kade Chandler and Latrelle Pickett all set for fitness tests.
Turner, who suffered a rib injury during Round 19, is aiming to be available for the team’s blockbuster clash with ladder leader Fremantle on Saturday.
“Daniel put together a strong session over the weekend and will integrate into full training this week,” said Selwyn Griffith, the club’s AFL High Performance Manager.
“He’ll be available for selection following a successful return to training this week.”
Pickett will also look to be available this weekend after progressing through concussion protocols following a head knock in Round 20.
“Latrelle has progressed well through the concussion protocols,” Griffith said.
“He will integrate into our main training session, and availability will be determined upon him completing training.”
After fracturing his hand during Round 20, Chandler is eyeing off a return this Saturday.
“Kade got the all-clear to begin running and ball work, so he’ll integrated into training this week,” Griffith said.
“We’ll determine his availability following our main training session on Thursday.”
Following Melbourne’s nine-point win over Gold Coast, defender Blakes Howes has undergone surgery on a fracture in his arm.
“During that aerial contest on the weekend, Blake came down on his arm and unfortunately, scans have shown that he has fractured his radius,” Griffith said.
“Following a surgical consult, Blake underwent surgery today.
“We’ll review his return timeline once we’ve had a follow-up appointment with the surgeon, however, we’re looking forward to seeing Blake play more football in 2026.”
Jack Viney has been taking positive steps in his rehab, returning to train with the main group.
“Jack completed training with the main group last week,” Griffith said.
“He’ll once again integrate with the main as we continue to work with Jack on building his training loads and conditioning.”
Brody Mihocek (neck), Jed Adams (knee), Jai Culley (knee) and Andy Moniz-Wakfield (knee) all continue to work through their respective rehab programs.

Test
“Jake sustained a toe injury early in the game but was fortunately able to continue,” said Melbourne AFL High-Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith. “Scans have cleared him of any fractures to the bones in his foot, but he does have a ligament strain to his big toe. “We’ll continue to manage his recovery and progress him as his function allows, with the aim of getting him back as quickly as possible.” |

“Jeffo pulled up well and, similar to Disco, has avoided any substantial ligament damage,” Griffith said. “He does have a little bit of bone bruising, so we’ll progress him based on his pain and function. “He was out at training today and got some running in. We’ll continue to work closely with him to see if we can integrate him this week and have him ready for our finals campaign.” Read Article |

Season
“Following the VFL game against North Melbourne, Jed reported some knee soreness which we followed up with scans,” Griffith said. “Unfortunately, they revealed that he had ruptured his PCL. Following a surgical consultation, the recommendation was for Jed to have a PCL reconstruction. It’s incredibly unfortunate news for Jed who had worked really hard to return to play this year. “This means that Jed will be sidelined for the remainder of the season and we’ll put the best plans in place to return him to peak performance in the new year.” |
