AS MELBOURNE prepares to face Geelong in a qualifying final on Saturday, the team could be bolstered by the return of a number of Demons with four players set to face fitness tests.
Paxy Paxman (ankle) and Georgia Campbell (illness) both missed Melbourne’s 18-point win over Adelaide on Sunday but will look to return to training this week.
“Paxy presented with some ankle soreness during our warm-up on Sunday. We chose to take a conservative approach and ruled her out of the game,” said Josh Keily, Melbourne’s AFLW High Performance Manager.
“Her ankle has now settled, and she’ll look to fully train this week, with the aim to be available for selection for Saturday’s game.
“Georgia was unwell on the weekend which meant she unfortunately couldn’t make the trip to Adelaide.
“She was back in at the club today, so we’ll get her integrated into training this week with the aim to be available for selection.”
After sustaining a concussion during Round 11, Shelley Heath-Barker is eyeing off the final steps of protocols.
“Shelley is progressing well through her concussion protocols,” Keily said.
“She’ll be available for selection pending her successful progression through the remainder of the protocols, which will include completing main training later this week.”
In positive news for Eliza McNamara, the Demon could make her long-awaited return to footy this weekend, after being sidelined since Round 5 due to a fractured jaw.
“Eliza has done really well progressing through her rehab and building her loads,” Keily said.
“She’ll reintegrate into main training this week, with the aim to be available for selection.”
Sinead Goldrick (hamstring), Lauren Clifton (foot), Mia Austin (throat), Chloe Baker-West (leg) and Grace Beasley (ACL) all continue to progress through their respective rehab programs.
