MELBOURNE Chief Operating Officer David Chippindall has advised he will finish at the Club after 18 years of service to the red and the blue.
Chippindall has progressed through the ranks throughout his time at the Demons, commencing as an opposition analyst within the club’s AFL program before transitioning into the business operations of the club.
Chippindall’s strong leadership and ability to influence have had a significant impact across all areas of operations, most recently highlighted by his time serving as the club’s interim CEO.
Melbourne President Steven Smith praised Chippindall for his contribution to the club over a significant period.
“David has given our club incredible service over the past 18 years,” said Smith.
“He has been a true Melbourne person, embodying the club values and stepping up as a leader in crucial times.
“His leadership has played a pivotal role in ensuring our club is financially sound and that our AFL list is in a strong position, with plenty of exciting young talent coming through the ranks.
“We are grateful for the passion, commitment, and energy he has given to the Demons.
“I would like to thank David, his partner Bec, and their children Ben and Emily for all they have contributed and wish them luck in this next chapter.”
CEO Paul Guerra, echoed Smith’s comments, congratulating Chippindall on his achievements.
“David has had a fantastic innings in the red and blue,” said Guerra.
“He leaves our club in a much better place than we he first joined us, particularly from a financial perspective.
“It is fitting that he departs the club as a Life Member, having been awarded the honour earlier this year.
“He and his family will always be welcome at the Melbourne Football Club.”
Chippindall said while he is grateful for the opportunities Melbourne has given him, the time is right to move onto the next chapter.
“Melbourne Football Club has played a significant role in not only my career, but my life,” said Chippindall.
“I am extremely proud of all I have achieved in my time at the club and leave the Demons with life-long friendships and memories.
“I have given absolutely everything to the club throughout my tenure and feel that the time is now right for me to explore what is next for me outside of the Melbourne Football Club.”
Chippindall has played a pivotal role throughout his tenure at the club, where he has overseen finance, technology, non-football businesses, people and culture and the club’s list management strategy.
He has played a key role in ensuring the club’s financial security, through his role in the club’s acquisition of Bentleigh Club, divestment of the club’s gaming businesses and in setting up the club’s Future Fund. In addition, he has been pivotal in overseeing the club’s list management strategy, the highlight of which was the club’s drought-breaking 2021 premiership.
Chippindall will finish at the Club at the end of February.
