MELBOURNE will be without Sinead Goldrick this weekend after scans confirmed the Demon has sustained an injury to her eye.

Goldrick came off during the first quarter of Saturday’s game against Sydney and was cleared to return to the field to play out the remainder of the match, undergoing precautionary scans after.

“Following the game, we got scans and unfortunately, they revealed a slight fracture in her eye socket,” AFLW High Performance Manager Josh Keily said.

“We’re consulting with specialists but at this point it’s looking like she won’t need surgery. She’ll miss this weekend’s match and then we’ll reassess what next week will look like from a training and game point of view.”

In good news for Blaithin Mackin, the Demon will be hoping to make a return from a calf injury.

“Blaithin has done really well with her rehab, completing main training yesterday,” Keily said.

“She needs to just tick off a few more things and if she gets through the week, she’ll be available for selection.”

Young Demon Maggie Mahony, who underwent a minor procedure on her nose in the past fortnight, will look to push her case for this weekend’s game.

“Off the back of the surgery, we’ve been building her training loads back up,” Keily said.

“She’ll aim to get through this week to then be available in Round 11.”

After injuring her ankle during Round 9, Georgia Gall is progressing well through her rehab targets.

“Georgia has returned to running, which is a positive sign,” Keily said.

“She’ll return to football skills towards the backend of this week, with the hopes to be back in the selection mix next week.”

In exciting news for Grace Beasley, the Demon will look to be involved in her first match scrimmage this weekend, 12 months on from sustaining an ACL injury.

“Grace has put in a mountain of work, hitting her final strength markers yesterday,” Keily said.

“Now we’re just waiting on a biomechanical report, and then she’ll be involved in a half a game of match scrimmage this weekend.”

Olivia Purcell (ACL) and Jacinta Hose (back) continue to work through their long-term rehab programs.
