SMALL forward Charlie Spargo will be in new colours next season, joining North Melbourne via the AFL Free Agency Period on Monday afternoon.
Spargo, who informed the club of his desire to exercise his rights as an unrestricted free agent last month, heads to Arden St after eight seasons as a Demon, with Melbourne to receive an End of Round Two selection (currently pick No.41) in the 2025 Telstra AFL Draft as compensation.
Demons AFL List Manager Tim Lamb thanked the 25-year-old for his contribution to the red and blue.
“Charlie has been a fantastic contributor to our program since joining us at the end of 2017,” Lamb said.
“He has grown as a person, player and leader within our environment, and we thank him for all he has given during his time at the club.
“Charlie will always be part of the Melbourne family, and we wish him all the best for this next chapter.”
Spargo, who was selected by Melbourne with pick No.29 in the 2017 AFL Draft, played 10 senior games this year, after missing the 2024 season with injury.
The 2021 AFL premiership player reflected on his journey as a Demon.
“I feel very lucky to have been drafted by such a great club like Melbourne, filled with so many special people and such a passionate fan base,” Spargo said.
“The support from the players, staff, coaches and fans over the last eight years has been immense and unwavering, and for that I’m very grateful.
“What I will cherish the most is the special bond created with my teammates. The friendships I’ve formed along the way and the memories made together have been amazing, culminating in the 2021 premiership.
“I’m very proud knowing I’ve given my all for the club and although I’m embarking on a new chapter in my football, the Melbourne Football Club will always have a special place in my heart.”
Originally from Albury, Spargo made his AFL debut in Round 6 of the 2018 season, going on to play 108 games and kick 64 goals in the red and blue.
