Melbourne’s 2025 season may not have ended with a finals berth, but for Daniel Turner, it was a year of growth and consistency across multiple roles.
The versatile Demon split his time between the backline and forward line, embracing the challenge of adapting on the go.
“It’s cool, it’s exciting. You just go out there and play naturally,” Disco told Melbourne Media. “Our coaches prepare me the right way, and I’ve got great leaders at both ends of the ground, so I can fit in seamlessly.”
While he admits there’s plenty of joy in kicking goals, Disco says he’s equally happy locking down in defence.
“As long as I’m playing good footy and helping the team, I love them both.”
A big focus in 2025 was lifting his consistency - and with a clean run at injury, he felt he was able to find that balance.
“In previous years the difference between my best and worst was too big. This year I’ve tried to stay at a high level for longer. It’s the first year I’ve had no interruptions, and that comes down to recovery, diet and how I prepare during the week.”
Facing some of the competition’s best forwards only added to the experience.
“It can be nerve-racking, but you just have to back yourself. I take it as a privilege to test myself against the best.”
And with a promising young core coming through, Disco is excited about the future.
“We’ve got such a good young group - it’s exciting. Hopefully I can be there with them and drag them along as well. Being a better leader is definitely something I want to keep working on.”
Despite the disappointment of 2025, the defender says there’s plenty to look forward to.
“Although we didn’t have the success we all wanted, I feel like we’re building towards something special. I’m excited for next year.”
