In celebration of ten seasons of AFLW, Melbourne has released a new video, titled Breaking Barriers, including some of Australia’s most well-known athletes and administrators.
For this enlightening conversation, Demons Tayla Harris and Saraid Taylor were joined by AFLW pioneer Debbie Lee, Melbourne Vixens captain Kate Moloney, member of the Australian Opals Maddison Rocci, and Emma McKeon, Australia’s most decorated Olympian in history.
The roundtable discusses the ways in which fans, brands, players and administrators can continue to break barriers and chase parity and equality for all athletes, and growth for women’s sport overall.
The event was facilitated by former AFLW player and Olympian Chloe Dalton, who currently hosts the podcast The Female Athlete Project.
Melbourne’s General Manager – AFLW, Clare Pettyfor, expressed her gratitude at the participants for sharing their stories.
“Each of the women in the room come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences but share the common goal of wanting to see women’s sport in Australia elevated to a new level,” Pettyfor said.
“As a club, we are so proud to be pioneers in the AFLW and are excited by the growth of our league since the inaugural season in 2017.
“However, we know that a rising tide lifts all boats and so are thrilled to see the benefits of our league’s success shared across a range of sports and codes and hopefully continue to inspire young women and girls to become what they can see.”
