MELBOURNE'S Tyla Hanks has started the season with a bang, topping the leaderboard for the AFL Coaches' Association's Champion Player of the Year Award.

Hanks wasted no time in getting into form for the 2025 season, putting on a show in the opening round with 29 disposals, two goals, eight intercepts and 644 metres gained. 

The 25-year-old received 10 votes from the coaches for this display, the highest number of votes a player can get for a single game. 

She wasn't the only Demon to make a mark in the 48-point win, with Olivia Purcell (eight votes) , Shelley Heath (six votes) , Eliza McNamara (two votes) , Kate Hore (two votes) and Sarah Lampard (one vote) all recognised by the coaches.
