MARK Jamar will don the red and blue again, joining Melbourne as a ruck coach for the 2025 AFL season.
Jamar, who played 155 games across a 14-year career at the Dees, will work closely with the Demons’ talls on a part-time basis, sharing his unique skillset and experience.
General Manager of AFL Football Performance Alan Richardson said the club was delighted to welcome the 41-year-old back after a decade.
“We’re really excited to have someone of Mark’s character and calibre with us, to work with our rucks,” Richardson said.
“Mark called Melbourne home for 14 seasons, and to now have him assisting both our experienced rucks in Max Gawn and Tom Campbell, and an up-and-comer in Will Verrall, is pretty special.
“We look forward to seeing how Mark can help our mix throughout our 2025 campaign.”
Nicknamed ‘The Russian’, Jamar first joined Melbourne via the rookie draft in 2001, making his AFL debut in 2003.
He kicked 56 goals in the red and blue, with All Australian honours (2010) and Life Membership (2013) among his impressive accolades.
Jamar departed the Dees in 2015, playing five games with Essendon before his retirement at the end of 2016. The switch to coaching saw him hold roles at the Bombers and Collingwood.
Melbourne will prepare to open its AFL season on Sunday afternoon, taking on GWS at the MCG for the inaugural Jim’s Game.
