MELBOURNE’S Christian Salem has entered into his rehab program after sustaining an injury during Round 5.

Following scans, it was confirmed last week that the defender had suffered a hamstring strain with Selwyn Griffith, Melbourne’s High Performance Manager, providing a further update on the Demon.

“It’s unfortunate for Christian because he’s a real professional at how he goes about it,” Griffith told Melbourne Media.

“He’s got a moderate-grade hamstring strain. He’s progressed to some drills and some of our primary stage rehab at the moment.

“It’s likely that he’ll miss four to six weeks, but as we progress him through, we’ll get more clarity on that [timeline]."

It was also confirmed on Friday that Clayton Oliver had undergone minor surgery on his finger, a planned procedure that was the recommended course of action.

Griffith said the club remained hopeful of Oliver’s recovery, with their eyes set for Melbourne’s ANZAC Day Eve clash against Richmond.

“Clayton has been managing a finger issue for the last couple of weeks,” Griffith said.

“Based on some of the advice we’ve been given, the best thing for that [injury] was to operate.

“He’s recovering now and once we get the wound clearance, then he should be cleared to integrate into training and still be available for our Round 7 game against Richmond.”
