MELBOURNE list manger Tim Lamb has shared the club’s enthusiasm to see its Petty and van Rooyen partnership in action in 2024.

The duo sparkled when combined this year, including a combined ten-goal-eruption in Round 20 against Richmond before Petty was struck down with a foot injury soon after.

The Demons have warded off rival interest in their 23-year-old swingman this trade period, with Adelaide hot in their pursuit of Petty but Lamb steadfast that he will be in red and blue in 2024.

“100%, that’s 100%,” Lamb said when AFL Trade Radio questioned if Petty would be at Melbourne next year.

“We’ve had a number of chats and Harrison’s a really good player, that’s why Adelaide would like to get him and it’s why we’re keeping him.”

With the 20-year-old van Rooyen also already impressing at AFL level, Lamb is excited to watch the young spearheads develop their chemistry.

The Demon list boss says Petty will be plying his craft up forward in 2024.

“We’ll work to hopefully not only have him for the next two years but an extended period after that,” Lamb says.

“We see him partnering with Jacob van Rooyen. We’re really excited about that partnership.

“What we saw from it this year was really good. They clicked together well they worked together well.

“That’s where he’ll be playing for us.”
