SATURDAY’S 29-point win over Hawthorn at the MCG was “a big relief” says in-form forward Jack Watts, who kicked three goals in the victory.
Watts said it was huge day for Melbourne, given it overcame Hawthorn for the first time in 10 years and continued a recent trend of ending some losing streaks against certain clubs.
“We’re knocking off a lot of hoodoos at the moment, so it was a big day for us on Saturday,” he said on Triple M on Monday.
“It was great for a player who has been there for a long time.
“I’ve been through a bit and it was great to get one up on the four-time premiers of the past eight years.”
Watts said the win will be a big springboard into the pre-season and for the 2017 season.
“It was a really significant win for this year,” he said.
“It’s been a great year, but at the same time, we needed something to spark us onto next year.”
