MELBOURNE has secured the services of crafty small forward Sabreena Duffy, in a deal that was finalised on Thursday morning.

The Demons signed Duffy following last night’s NAB AFLW draft, where the club chose to pass on their final pick of the night, allowing them to look interstate for players who had not yet been selected.

The 22-year-old is no stranger to AFLW football, with three years of experience under her belt. She made her AFLW debut for Fremantle in 2019 and has developed into a dangerous talent up forward.

Duffy kicked 30 goals throughout her 25 games for the Dockers and despite taking some time away from the game to focus on her career, is an exciting prospect for the Demons’ list.

Melbourne’s AFLW list manager Todd Patterson said the club was thrilled to add some further experience to its playing group.

“With the draft system providing us the opportunity to pass on our last pick, we were able to assess undrafted players from interstate,” Patterson told Melbourne Media.

“So, we’re really excited to bring Sabreena across the Nullarbor and I know she’s really up for the challenge.

“I’m sure most of the fans would remember Sabreena, as she’s always been a difficult matchup for us as a crafty small forward for Fremantle.

“She’s had a bit of time out of football focusing on career and other parts of her life, but it’s really exciting to be able to add a player of her level of talent.”

Melbourne was allowed to access an extra draft pick during the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft, due to defender Gabby Colvin’s season-ending injury opening up a spot on the club’s list.

During the draft, the Demons also signed three young talents in Maeve Chaplin, Samantha Johnson and Georgia Gall.
