THE 2022 NAB AFLW Draft is officially done and dusted, with Melbourne welcoming three new talents to its list.

The Demons headed into the night with four picks – No.44, No.49, No.72 and No.79. During the draft, the club used their first three picks to select Maeve Chaplin, Samantha Johnson and Georgia Gall, before passing on their final selection.

Pick No.44 - Maeve Chaplin 

AGE: 19
HEIGHT: 167cm
POSITION: Midfielder/Defender
RECRUITED FROM: Casey Demons
STRENGTHS: Powerful, skilful 

Maeve Chaplin is an exciting re-selection for the Demons, with the young talent re-joining the side after spending time on the list in season six.  

Chaplin - who was delisted at the end of May - finished the VFLW season with a stretch of impressive performances, helping the Casey Demons to their first ever VFLW Preliminary Final.

The youngster has developed into a powerful defender with the Demons and comes back into the AFLW side averaging 15.3 disposals and 11.6 kicks during her 11 matches in the recent VFLW season.

Pick No.49 - Samantha Johnson 

AGE: 29
HEIGHT: 176cm
POSITION: Midfielder/Defender
RECRUITED FROM: Casey Demons
STRENGTHS: Leader, competitive

Samantha Johnson follows in Chaplin’s footsteps, coming to the club from the Casey Demons following an impressive season in the VFLW.

Johnson was the captain of Casey’s VFLW side and led the team to their first ever Preliminary Final. During the VFLW season she averaged 17.6 disposals throughout her 12 matches. 

The tall midfielder will bring explosive on-field energy with an incredible ability to compete.

Pick No.72 - Georgia Gall 

AGE: 17
HEIGHT: 176cm
POSITION: Half back 
RECRUITED FROM: Melbourne Stars WBBL
STRENGTHS: Athleticism, agility

Georgia Gall knows a thing or two about elite sport, coming across to AFLW from the Melbourne Stars list in the WBBL.

Beginning her elite cricket year at the age of 16, Gall represented Australia in 2019 at the National U/18 Championships and was one of the first females to play in the APS XI cricket as a fast bowler.

The 17-year-old was a talented junior footballer and standing at 180cm tall, will be an exciting prospect coming out of Geelong Grammar.
