AFTER Melbourne’s first loss of 2021, Simon Goodwin, Jake Lever and Clayton Oliver addressed the media.
Recap what they had to say below:
Simon Goodwin – Media Conference
On what went wrong against the Crows:
“[I’m] disappointed with our game, how we defended especially.
“And the turnover game, they probably got us in that phase of the game.
“[I’m] disappointed in those aspects of the game and there’s little things late in the game that you’d like to do better, from a game state perspective in tight games.
“Just under pressure with five or six minutes to go, we just didn’t execute the things that we would’ve liked to have done.
“This is our first dose as a footy club of losing, so we’ve got to go away and assess the ‘why’, make sure we learn from it, and get better at it.
“Because that game was there to be had and we let it go.”
Jake Lever – Media Conference
On whether it was a good loss to have:
“We’ve gone into the season, and seasons gone by, in terms of wanting to create a winning culture, and for us we were really happy to keep on winning.
“I think if you looked at the nine games previously, we’ve had some learnings from nearly all the games that we played in.
“We spoke about it after the game and we knew that we got into a little bit of a game that we didn’t want to be in, and we went away from the way that we’ve been playing, in terms of defensively especially.
“I think that we’d been one of the better defensive teams in the competition for the first nine rounds and I thought on the weekend we were just five percent off, and it can cost you.”
Clayton Oliver – Melbourne Media
On his 37 disposals, 28 contested possessions and three goals:
“We lost so it sort of means nothing from an individual and a team point of view.
“At the end of the day we didn’t win, so I can’t really talk about it too much.”
