COACH Paul Roos says his side won’t be able to keep up the type of form it displayed in round one for every match this season.

Melbourne produced one of its best performances in recent seasons, when it started 2015 with a 26-point win over the Gold Coast Suns at the MCG on Saturday.

But Roos said the challenge for his side was to find a level of consistency that would be displayed throughout the rest of the year.

“You’re not going to play to the level we did [on Saturday] for every minute of every game – it’s very, very hard to do,” he said from AAMI Park on Tuesday.

“But we need to find a level of consistency that when we drop off, we don’t drop off as dramatically as we did last year.

“We were able to do that on the weekend and the Suns challenged us three times and got to within eight points in the last quarter after Gaz (Gary Ablett) kicked a couple of goals. We were able to steady, so that was a big step forward for us also.”

Roos said the players will have gained plenty of belief from its win against Gold Coast.

Meanwhile, Roos said the club was pleased with Mitch Clark’s return to the game, after he made his debut for Geelong against Hawthorn on Eastern Monday.

“As soon as he decided that he couldn’t play at this footy club, you look to better your own club and we were able to do that with Heritier [Lumumba joining the club],” he said.

“If you’ve got some good relationships with some of the other clubs, then you’ve got win/win situations [in trade deals].

“We just hope Mitch gets healthy and plays really good footy.”
