MELBOURNE will be without Daniel Turner for up to four weeks, the defender confirmed to have cracked a rib during Round 19.

Turner was removed from Melbourne’s match against North Melbourne on Saturday following an incident during the third quarter.

“Daniel received a knock late in the game, which caused him some discomfort and pain with breathing and movement of his upper body,” said Selwyn Griffith, Melbourne's AFL High Performance Manager.

“He had imaging done at the hospital which confirmed that he has a small crack in one of his ribs.

“We’ll assess his availability based on his pain and function over the coming weeks.”

Changkuoth Jaith was also removed from the game at Marvel Stadium, but Griffith is hopeful that the defender won’t be sidelined for long.

“CJ had an incident with his calf during the game and was unable to weight bear at that stage,” Griffith said.

“Scans have cleared him of any damage to his Achilles or calf, but they did confirm a rupture to his plantaris tendon.

“Fortunately, it’s something we have seen before. We’ll see how he pulls up, with his level of integration into training this week determining his availability.”

Coming out of the VFL, Jack Henderson will need to pass a fitness test after a knock to his knee in yesterday’s Casey match against North Melbourne.

“Jack had someone fall on his knee during the VFL game,” Griffith said.

“He was unable to finish the match but has pulled up well and we’ll assess his availability later in the week once we complete our main training session.”

In positive injury news, Harrison Petty will be available for selection in Round 20 after missing the past two games due to hamstring soreness.

“Harrison trained really well last week, but given the two six-day turnarounds and the fact he was coming off a hamstring strain prior to the bye, we made the decision to manage him on the weekend,” Griffith said.

“He completed a match-load session on the weekend and will integrate into full training this week to be available for Round 20.”

Young Demon Xavier Lindsay is also tracking well, with a long-awaited return to footy likely to be next week.

“Xavier has had a really strong couple of weeks of training,” Griffith said.

“He’ll now integrate into full training this week, with the plan to have him return on managed minutes next week.”

“Following the VFL game against North Melbourne, Jed reported some knee soreness which we followed up with scans,” Griffith said. “Unfortunately, they revealed that he had ruptured his PCL. Following a surgical consultation, the recommendation was for Jed to have a PCL reconstruction. It’s incredibly unfortunate news for Jed who had worked really hard to return to play this year. “This means that Jed will be sidelined for the remainder of the season and we’ll put the best plans in place to return him to peak performance in the new year.”
