KRSTEL Petrevski will miss the remainder of the AFL Women’s season due to a severe hamstring injury.

The 19-year-old suffered the blow in her side’s win over Richmond on Saturday, with scans later confirming she had torn the hamstring tendon.

After consulting a surgeon on Tuesday, it was decided that Petrevski didn’t require surgery, however a lengthy rehabilitation phase lays ahead.

“The weekend’s injury is obviously a disappointing outcome for Krstel, especially given she was just beginning to establish herself in the team,” GM of AFLW Daniel McPherson told Melbourne Media.

“Krstel has handled the news of the severity of her injury with great maturity, and after a short break back at home in WA with her family in the coming weeks, she’ll return to Melbourne to commence her rehabilitation program.”

Petrevski, who kicked two goals in last week’s season-opener, has played just the three games in the red and blue to date.

Meanwhile, several other Demons are progressing well with their injury concerns.

Defender Meg Downie is continuing to improve, but is still likely to be two to three weeks away from a return – she sustained a high ankle sprain in a pre-season practice match – while Sarah Lampard is edging closer to pulling on the guernsey again.

Lampard got through a VFLW hit-out unscathed on Saturday and will look to tick a few more boxes before potentially being available for selection this week.

Teammate Shae Sloane is only a couple of weeks behind, still aiming for a Round 5 or 6 return from her ACL injury, whereas Maddi Gay (quad) should line up on Saturday for the Demons.
