PRE-SEASON No.3 got underway for Tom Sparrow on Monday morning, and he’s looking to make it his biggest yet.

Sure, that’s a bit of a cliché, but the 20-year-old has had a taste of senior footy and is ready to take his game to the next level.

“I feel like I’m ready to go,” Sparrow told Melbourne Media.

“Obviously I had a bit of a hiccup at the end of last year, but (my) body's feeling good and I’m ready to get straight into it.”

The hiccup Sparrow alluded to came in the form of a broken collarbone, suffered against the Western Bulldogs in Round 13.

This injury sidelined him for the remainder of 2020, following five consecutive games for the Demons.

And while the contested midfielder looked ready to cement himself in the side’s best 22, he knows there is still plenty of work ahead.

“I’ve just got to push for my spot,” Sparrow said.

“Obviously there are a lot of good players in the same position as me, so I’ve got to work my way in and try to hold my spot if I get there.”

The former No.27 draft pick has played seven games across his first two seasons in the competition, showing an ability to compete on the inside and work hard defensively.

After leaving the hub two months ago, Sparrow headed home to South Australia and continued to work on his game.

Darren Burgess’ intense running program kept him busy and primed him for a return to the track – one which he thoroughly enjoyed.

“It’s good, obviously to see a few faces you haven’t seen in a while, so that’s good, and we jumped straight into footy, so that’s even better,” he said.

“Obviously Burgo’s got us doing some running too.

“But to see those new faces and new coaches as well, it’s been good.”
