SENIOR coach in waiting Simon Goodwin says Melbourne has been diligent in its preparation for Sunday’s clash against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

Speaking to Dee TV, Goodwin said the Demons were not perturbed with the six day break, after playing Collingwood in the Queen’s Birthday blockbuster last Monday.

“We just prepare as best we can,” he said.

“It was a lighter week at training, but we’ve reviewed really hard and we’ve prepared as best as we can for this week’s game.

“Although it’s a shorter week, we sometimes feel that can be better for our group as it keeps them on edge and really active in the game. So we’re just looking forward to Sunday and getting out there and playing well.”

Goodwin said the clash against St Kilda was a great opportunity for Melbourne against another team in a similar situation.

“In some ways we’re both developing teams,” he said.

“Both finished in similar parts of the ladder last year, but I think for both clubs what we have seen is an exciting brand of footy being played and there are some real signs of improvement, so I think that’s really encouraging.

“We certainly believe in the way we’re developing our players and hopefully that will pan out well on the weekend.”
