MELBOURNE and Richmond are set to play for the annual Berry Street Cup this Sunday at the MCG.

This year, fans will be able to show their support for their club and Berry Street’s work, by helping children recover from the devastating effects of family violence, abuse and neglect, by purchasing a set of thundersticks.

“We are asking our supporters to make some noise as we battle Richmond for the Berry Street Cup during round 22 because like Berry Street, we will never give up,” Melbourne vice-captain, Brent Moloney said.

“Buying a set of thundersticks or donating coins to the tin shakers at the game will help us support 13,000 Victorian children, young people and families we work with every year," Berry Street acting chief executive officer, Julian Pocock said.

The inflatable noise making thundersticks will be on sale for $5 from the Berry Street volunteers in and around the MCG prior to the match.

Adding to the celebration of the Berry Street Cup will be the fourth ‘Never Give Up Tug-of-War Challenge’, which will see a crew of kids take to the ground in a struggle of strength and stamina before the first bounce.

Past club champions Russell Robertson and Brendon Gale will be lending a hand to their respective sides.
The tug-of-war is a light-hearted representation of Berry Street’s very serious and enduring commitment to helping kids recover from the devastating effects of family violence, abuse and neglect.
Berry Street never gives up on children and young people because we believe that all children should have a good childhood, growing up feeling safe, nurtured and with hope for the future.
