ANDREW Leoncelli has stepped down as a Melbourne board member due to business and family commitments.

Leoncelli, who played 146 matches from 1996-2003, joined the board in 2007 and was part of the Jim Stynes-ticket, which came into office in mid-2008. But after four years as a director, Leoncelli is not offering himself for reelection.

Stynes said Leoncelli had been a huge support and great contributor to the club.

“I am sad to see him depart the board, but I know that he will continue to contribute where and whenever possible,” Stynes told melbournefc.com.au.

“He is a loyal friend and has been a brilliant director.”

Leoncelli was chair of the list management subcommittee and served as a member of strategic relationships and facilities project team.

He said he had mixed feeling about stepping down from the board.

“Mixed in that I look back over the last three-and-a-bit years with much pride at having played a small part in helping turn the fortunes of our great club around,” Leoncelli said.

“But also heavy in heart knowing that we have so much more work to do to achieve what all MFC directors, players staff, members and supporters dream of and that is our 13th premiership cup.”

Leoncelli said the efforts of the Stynes-led board had been amazing.

“I wish the current board, who have done an amazing job at galvanising the football club over the last three years and securing its future, well,” he said.

“It’s been my absolute pleasure to have met, worked with and become friends with all of you.”

The clubs thanks Leoncelli for his dedication and wishes he, Felicia and children Isabella and Benjamin all the very best for the future.
