The AFLPA has announced the nominations for this year’s Most Valuable Player award, as voted by the players themselves
THE AFL PLAYERS’ Association has announced the nominations for this year’s Most Valuable Player award, as voted by the players themselves.
Melbourne players Jordie McKenzie, Brent Moloney and Jack Trengove have been nominated by their fellow teammates for the MVP Award in the 2011 season.
Jeremy Howe has also been nominated for the Best First Year Player award, which recognises the difficulty newcomers must face in their first year playing AFL.
Jared Rivers has also been nominated for the Robert Rose Most Courageous Award, an award which recognises players who are selfless, committed and fiercely loyal.
And Brad Green has also been nominated for The Best Captain Award, an award which recognises team captains for their strong leadership qualities.
McKenzie, Moloney and Trengove will vie for the MVP Award on Monday 12th September at a ceremony at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium.
In its 29th year, the AFL’s highly anticipated award recognises qualities such as versatility, ability to play under pressure, skill, leadership, courage, respect for all players and overall value to a team.
Every AFL player in the competition has had to vote for the three teammates whose overall performance and value as a player warranted a nomination for the prestigious Leigh Matthews Trophy for the Most Valuable Player.
Players then choose from the list of 51 nominees to determine who receives the MVP Award for 2011.
