MELBOURNE’S famous Irish jig will make its debut at IKON Park on Friday 25 September, with the inaugural ‘Craic in at the W’ match day.
The Dees will host an Irish party for their Round 7 clash with North Melbourne, celebrating the life and legacy of club legend Jim Stynes, and raising funds for the Jim Stynes Foundation.
The match day will be an acknowledgement of Stynes’ impact on the Melbourne Football Club, as well as a broader celebration of Irish culture, the first iteration of this event in the AFLW after two years of Jim’s Game in the AFL.
An Irish flair will take over IKON park for the entirety of the AFL Grand Final Eve public holiday, with Carlton and Richmond starting the festivities at 4pm, before Melbourne and North Melbourne continue the party at 7:15pm.
The day will include Irish music, dancing, a taste of Gaelic football and hurling, and the return of the popular ‘Jim’s Jig’ after each goal.
Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase the much-loved Jim’s Cap, with a limited run of caps available on match day.
All proceeds made from this cap will be donated to the Jim Stynes Foundation.
To ensure a strong Irish presence at the game, the club invites anyone who presents an Irish passport on the day to enter the ground for free as part of the celebration.
