Jim will always be honoured: Jones
Nathan Jones says the Demons want to honour the late, great Jim Stynes for the long-term and not just round one
Jones said Stynes was an inspiring “icon and legend” whose legacy would always be remembered at Melbourne.
“Without Jimmy and the efforts he put in … the Melbourne footy club would no longer be here,” he said.
“There’s no better way to honour Jimmy and that’s performing this year.
“Jimmy would want us to perform over a long period of time and not just honour him with one performance or a week of consistent performances.”
Jones said the players hadn’t fully come to terms with the loss of Stynes.
“There is still some sadness and shock and disbelief that Jimmy is no longer around,” he said.
“But at the same time, there is some excitement that we’re leading into our first game next week.
“We want to honour Jimmy the best way possible and celebrate his life with the funeral.”
