THREE Demons have been named in the inaugural AFLW 22Under22 squad.

Libby Birch, Eden Zanker and Tyla Hanks have all been recognised in the extended AFL Players’ Association concept, which celebrates the best young talent in the competition.

The squad features a total of 31 women, with the final team to represent the best 22 players under the age of 22.

Following impressive seasons in the red and blue, Melbourne’s trio have well and truly earned their spots.

They all had consistent years, helping the Demons reach their first AFL Women’s Final Series.

Birch, who joined Melbourne in the Trade Period last year, proved to be one of the league’s best defenders in 2020.

The 22-year-old was a solid and reliable body down back, averaging 12 disposals in her new colours.

Equally as influential was Zanker, who further developed her depth in her third season at the Dees.

Melbourne’s top draft pick in 2017, the 20-year-old provided great versatility in 2020, mixing between the ruck and up forward. She finished with four goals and an average of 10 disposals for the year.

The Demons’ midfield continued to impress this season, and Hanks was no exception.

At just 20 years of age, the Gippsland Power-product added versatility in the centre, consistently showcasing her class.

Hanks managed an average of 10 disposals a game, and despite not kicking a goal this season, she created plenty of opportunities up forward.

The 22Under22 is the industry’s only fan-voted award, with the football community having the power to select the final team.

Fans cast their votes, before the results are revealed on April 21, in conjunction with the announcement of the AFLW Players’ MVP Award.
