AFTER Melbourne made its first finals appearance in 12 years this season, the club appears to have assembled a well-balanced list for 2019.

When ranked against the rest of the competition, the Demons sit around the middle of the table for both age and experience.

With a wide spread of talent, the Demons are ranked as the eighth oldest side in the league, set to have an average age of 23.99 years when the season kicks off in 2019.

Veteran Jordan Lewis, currently 32 years of age, is the oldest player at Melbourne, while at the other end of the spectrum, draftee James Jordon is yet to turn 18.

The 17-year-old, taken with pick 33 in the draft, will have his 18th birthday on the 20th of December, only narrowly qualifying to play in the AFL next season.

While there is plenty of youth in the side, Melbourne is beginning to gain experience, with an average of 59 games played across the list.

The Demons are the 11th most experienced club, 21.4 games behind league-leaders Hawthorn.

Lewis, who played 264 games with the Hawks, has the most senior football under his belt with 307 career matches, while Nathan Jones comes in second at 264.

Out of all players at the club to have been on the list this season, Oskar Baker and Declan Keilty are the only two who haven’t debuted.

Prior to 2018, the Demons hadn’t appeared in a final since 2006, but after making it to a preliminary final against West Coast this season, Melbourne now averages 2.3 finals played per player.

The club has the 12th most finals experience in the league and will have learned a lot from its journey through September this year.
