JESSE Hogan has officially been ruled out of Melbourne's clash against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night with illness.

A sick Hogan missed training on Thursday, and the Demons gave him until Friday morning to prove whether he was fit to fly out to Adelaide.

However, the star forward was a no-show at Melbourne Airport on Friday morning, and the club confirmed he would not play later in the afternoon.

Half-forward Alex Neal-Bullen and tall forward Sam Weideman were the travelling emergencies, and the Demons will make a decision on who comes into the line-up before the game on Saturday night.

The power forward is a big loss for the Demons after making his return against Hawthorn last week. Hogan has missed three of the past five matches through suspension and personal reasons.

Hogan has booted nine goals from four games in 2017, and his output will be difficult to replace against the top-of-the-ladder Crows.
