MELBOURNE has lodged its first trade for the 2018 AFLW Trade and Signing Period, securing picks 12 and 47 from the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos.

The Demons received the two selections in exchange for defender Jasmine Grierson, midfielder Emma Humphries and pick 54.

AFLW list manager Todd Patterson said the move provided a positive outcome for the Tasmanian-born Humphries.

“Emma and the club have decided it is best for her to continue her career with the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos, as this will allow her to continue to reside in her home state,” he told Melbourne Media.

“We would like to thank Emma for being part of our inaugural AFLW squad and wish her the best in the future.”

After playing six games this season, Grierson decided not to recommit to the red and blue in 2019.

Taken at pick no. 135 in the 2016 AFLW draft, Grierson hopes the decision will further develop her football career.

“Jasmine nominated North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos as a club she would like to be traded to in her pursuit for greater playing opportunities.”

The AFLW trade period will conclude on Monday 4 June, with Melbourne expected to increase its activity in the coming days.
