STAR Melbourne forward Tom McDonald is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday after suffering a knee injury in Round 16.

McDonald hurt himself during the third term of the Dees’ five-point win over Carlton on Sunday and played no further part in the match, limping off on crutches post-game.

The 26-year-old had scans on Monday morning to reveal the extent of the damage, and unfortunately, it showed that he has torn the meniscus in his left knee.

McDonald requires surgery to mend that knee, and as a result, is unlikely to take any further part in Melbourne’s year.

It is disappointing news for the Demon who booted an equal career-high six goals on Sunday and he is now set to miss his first game since Round 5 last year.
