Melbourne utility Trent Rivers will depart the Demons after a trade was finalised with the West Coast Eagles during the 2026 Continental Tyres Trade Period.
The deal sees the Demons receive Pick 45 in the upcoming 2026 AFL Telstra AFL Draft, along with 2027 second round, 2028 second round and a 2028 fourth round as compensation for his departure to the West Coast Eagles along with Jack Viney and a 2028 second round selection.
Melbourne AFL List Manager Tim Lamb thanked Rivers for his contribution to the red and blue.
“Trent has been a valued member of our club, and we respect his decision to pursue an opportunity elsewhere,” Lamb said.
“As a premiership player, Trent has made a significant contribution to our club, both on and off the field.
“We thank Trent for his contribution and wish him, his partner Paris and their family all the best for the future.”
Rivers ends his career at the Demons as a two-time Norm Smith Memorial Trophy (Coaches Award) winner, as well as having played a crucial role in ending the club’s 57-year premiership drought in 2021.
The versatile 25-year-old has spent the majority of his career in defence but can play across multiple lines, making him an asset to any side.
The Melbourne Football Club thanks Rivers for his contribution to the club over six years.
