THREE Demons have signed one-year contract extensions, with Ryleigh Wotherspoon, Saraid Taylor and Maggie Mahony committing to Melbourne until at least the end of 2027.

Wotherspoon, an elite athlete who has represented Queensland and Melbourne in softball, cricket and soccer, made the switch to AFLW and has quickly established herself as one of the Demons' most damaging forwards.

The versatile 22-year-old enjoyed career-best form in 2025 and shapes as one to watch in 2026 after an impressive pre-season.

Selected with Pick No. 12 in the 2023 AFLW Draft, Wotherspoon arrived at Melbourne after attracting significant interest following a train-on year with Brisbane.

Taylor's journey to the AFLW has been an unconventional one. After spending six years as a development player in the WNBL, she transitioned to football in 2022, playing with Richmond VFLW and Port Melbourne before joining the Demons ahead of the 2023 season.

The 183cm defender enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2025, playing a career-high 12 games while cementing her place in Melbourne's backline.

Taylor was also recognised with the Club Ambassador Award in 2025, reflecting her impact both within the club and across the wider community.

Mahony enters her second AFLW season after an outstanding debut campaign in 2025, making an immediate impact through her pressure and competitiveness around the contest.

The 19-year-old laid at least four tackles in every game during her first season and was rewarded with Melbourne's Best Young Player award, recognising her impressive development and contribution.

Mahony was selected with Pick No. 21 in the 2024 AFLW Draft from Oakleigh Chargers and Collingwood's VFLW program.

General Manager of AFLW Katrina Gill spoke to how excited the program was to have all three players sign on for another year.

“Ryleigh, Saraid and Maggie are coming off excellent seasons where they played important roles for the team, and have backed it up with strong pre-seasons,” Gill said.

“They are all still young in terms of their football development and will only continue to improve. Ryleigh, Saraid and Maggie are valued teammates and committed to getting better every day.

“We are excited to watch them grow and help us achieve success as a club.”
