MELBOURNE is gearing up for its biggest challenge of the season, facing an in-from Fremantle on its home deck of the MCG.

Senior coach Steven King joined media on Thursday and backed in his side to match it with the ladder leaders. Hear more from King below. 

GOLD COAST WIN
“It was a really great win,” King said.

“Against a team full of high-end talent, on paper, you look at it and know how dangerous they are.

“We were challenged…to find a way back, was really impressive. [It was] a mature performance and one that was really important for our year moving forward.”

FREMANTLE BATTLE
“It’s a great opportunity to see where we’re at against a team that has been dominant all year,” King said.

“We played them in Round 2 over [in Perth] and started really poorly on the road. I think we’ve grown a lot, matured a lot from that game, so as a coach I’m just really excited to see where we’re at now.

“But I’m really confident that if we bring our best…that our players are up for it, we can’t wait.”

RETURN OF KEY DEMONS
“[Daniel Turner] will train fully today and hopefully everything goes smoothly,” King said.

“We’re anticipating that he’ll get up for this weekend which will be great.

“If [Kade Chandler] and [Latrelle Pickett] get through training today then they’ll also be available, which is great for us. We’re starting to get some availability back at the right time of year which helps us.”

“The MCG on a Saturday afternoon, I’d just love every Melbourne supporter to get there,” King said. 

“It’s a really significant day for our club with the game supporting the Breast Cancer Network Australia. We’ve been fortunate enough that Zurich have forgone their logo so that our players can represent someone affected by breast cancer.

“It’s going to be a great game of footy.”
