The Casey Demons have fallen short against Collingwood, overrun in the final quarter after a hard-fought contest at Casey Fields.

Casey controlled large periods of the opening half, matching the Magpies around the contest and generating strong field position through disciplined team defence and efficient ball movement.

However, the momentum shifted after the main break. Collingwood lifted its intensity around stoppages and began to dominate the clearance battle, giving its dangerous forwards repeat opportunities. As the pressure increased, the Dees found it difficult to generate meaningful inside 50 entries and were unable to wrestle back control.

After producing several strong final-quarter performances over recent weeks, Casey couldn't find the late response it needed, with the Magpies finishing the stronger side.

Despite the result, there were a number of standout individual performances.

Lukas Cooke was outstanding in defence. The defender collected 30 disposals at an impressive 90 per cent efficiency, while also taking 11 marks and recording 11 intercept possessions. His ability to read the play and position himself behind the ball repeatedly halted Collingwood attacks, while his attacking mindset was on display with a driving run through the corridor that set up a Matt Jefferson goal.

Jack Henderson continued his strong VFL form, working tirelessly throughout the afternoon to finish with 28 disposals and six tackles. Frequently involved in transition, Henderson provided plenty of drive and was instrumental in helping Casey move the ball forward.

Joel Fitzgerald once again showcased his class around the contest. The midfielder gathered a game-high 34 disposals and added five clearances, consistently finding the football and helping Casey compete in the midfield battle.

While the hit-out numbers were relatively even, Max Heath made his presence felt with his work around the ground. The ruckman finished with 22 disposals, six tackles and a team-high seven clearances, providing a valuable physical presence in the contest.

Jake Melksham hit the scoreboard with two goals and looked dangerous when opportunities presented, despite receiving close attention from the Collingwood defence for much of the day.

Among the Casey-listed contingent, Miller Bergman, Ethan Stanley and Jarrod Gatt all impressed.

Bergman continued his consistent season with 28 disposals, using the ball well across half-back and showing great composure under pressure.

Stanley's explosiveness was a feature throughout the afternoon, breaking lines through the midfield and wing with his speed and willingness to take the game on.

Gatt also produced a strong performance, making his presence felt at both ends of the ground. He took several important marks in key moments while working hard defensively and providing an option in attack.

The loss leaves Casey with work to do as it looks to keep its finals hopes alive. The Dees will now turn their attention to a crucial clash against Essendon next week, where a return to the winners list will be vital if they are to remain in the hunt for a top-10 finish.
