Andy Moniz-Wakefield will miss the remainder of the 2026 season after rupturing his left ACL during Melbourne’s Round 12 match against GWS in Alice Springs.

The 22-year-old came off the ground late in the fourth quarter, with scans confirming the worst.

This setback comes just over 12 months after Moniz-Wakefield suffered an injury to his right knee during the last years pre-season, ruling him out of the 2025 season.

Melbourne’s GM of AFL Football Alan Richardson said this was unfortunate news for Andy.

“This is disappointing news for Andy, particularly given the work he put in over the pre-season to return from his previous knee injury. We all really feel for him,” Richardson said.

“Right now, we will make sure Andy is well supported through this tough time.

“The club, along with our medical and high-performance staff, will ensure he receives the highest standard of care and has everything he needs throughout the rehabilitation period.

“While his presence will be missed on the field, we know Andy will continue to bring his positive attitude from the sidelines.”

Moniz-Wakefield was in career-best form, winning the VFL side's best-on-ground award the week prior in their Round 9 clash against Footscray, where he recorded 32 disposals, three goals, 10 marks, seven tackles and five clearances.
