VANETTA Nampijinpa Hudson is the Nyirripi artist behind Narrm’s 2026 Indigenous guernsey.
The Dees will run out in the special guernsey this Saturday, a jumper that celebrates the club’s connection to Nyirripi, a small town 440kms out of Alice Springs.
Vanetta’s art tells the stories passed down by her father and his father before him for millennia.
She paints stories of Warlukurlangu Jukurrpa (Fire Dreaming), which relate directly to her land, its features and the plants and animals that inhabit it.
Vanetta began painting with Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal owned and governed art centre located in Yuendumu and Nyirripi, in 2017.
Her grandmother Ursula Napangardi Hudson, designed Narrm’s first ever Indigenous guernsey in 2014, creating an even greater connection to the club. Vanetta credits her grandmother Ursula in inspiring her to learn the craft of painting.
Ahead of tomorrow's Sir Doug Nicholls Round match against Hawthorn, Vanetta’s son Malachi, who is a huge Dees fan, will run out with the team tomorrow as their junior mascot, creating a special moment for the family.
