COMING out of Narrm’s 32-point win over Waalitj Marawar, Caleb Windsor will need to pass a fitness test after an incident involving his toe.
The club’s AFL High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith provided an update on the Demon on Tuesday.
“Caleb sustained a toe injury during the game,” Griffith said.
“He was able to continue to play for a brief period but with the short turn around, the best decision was to remove him from the game.
“He‘ll be assessed this week to determine his availability.”
In positive news for Trent Rivers, the Demon will be available for selection this weekend after a successful return in the VFL on Saturday.
Rivers finished the game with 29 disposals, six marks and eight intercepts.
“He returned through the VFL and was able to get through the game without issue,” Griffith said.
After spraining his ankle in last week’s VFL match, Ricky Mentha Jnr is eyeing off a return this Saturday.
“Ricky had a really good week following the ankle sprain,” Griffith said.
“He’ll look to integrate into training this week and if he progresses well, he’ll look to be available this weekend.”
Jake Melksham is honing in on his last week in the rehab group, with a hopeful return on the cards in Round 11.
“Jake has progressed really well in the last week,” Griffith said.
“He’ll integrate into main training this week, and then the aim will be for him to be available next week.”
After sustaining a hamstring strain during Round 8, Brody Mihocek is taking positive steps forward in his road back.
“Brody has progressed well from his hamstring strain and has returned to high-speed running,” Griffith said.
“He’ll integrate into some skills-based work this week and then we’ll determine his availability following this week.”
Christian Salem, who sustained a foot fracture in Round 5, is focusing on hitting his next phase of rehab.
“Christian continues to work diligently on his return from that foot fracture,” Griffith said.
“Unfortunately, he’s still unable to complete any high-intensity work at the moment so he’ll be a couple weeks away from a return.”
Similarly, Xavier Lindsay continues to manage hip and groin soreness.
“We’re working with Xavier on the management of his hip and groin pain,” Griffith said.
“Similarly to Christian, he’s been unable to progress through any form of high intensity, but we’ll look to progress him when he’s ready.”
Aidan Johnson continues to manage hip and groin soreness, with the focus for him to return when he’s able to successfully integrate into main training.
Jai Culley (knee), Shane McAdam (Achilles), Tom Campbell (neck) and Jack Viney (Achilles) all continue to work through their respective rehab programs.
“Blake continues to progress well following his fracture and has now begun some non-contact ball work,” said Selwyn Griffith, Melbourne’s AFL High-Performance Manager.
“He has a surgical review in just over a week, which will give us further information on his return to contact as we lead into finals.”
“Tom had a surgical consultation last week, which confirmed that he required a shoulder reconstruction,” Griffith said.
“He had that performed last week and is recovering well.
“We’ll work closely with Tom to set him up for a strong off-season and a strong 2027.”
“Following the VFL game against North Melbourne, Jed reported some knee soreness which we followed up with scans,” Griffith said.
“Unfortunately, they revealed that he had ruptured his PCL. Following a surgical consultation, the recommendation was for Jed to have a PCL reconstruction. It’s incredibly unfortunate news for Jed who had worked really hard to return to play this year.
“This means that Jed will be sidelined for the remainder of the season and we’ll put the best plans in place to return him to peak performance in the new year.”
“Brody had some follow up scans and a review from the surgeon, which have pleasingly cleared him to begin to increase some of his physical activity, which means he’s been able to return to running and strength work in the gym,” Griffith said.
“This is a really positive sign for Brody as he recovers from that neck surgery.”
“Jai is recovering well from his knee reconstruction and is in the early phases of his program, which is predominately focused on getting his range of motion back and beginning strength work,” Griffith said.
“Andy went in for surgery today following his ACL injury,” Griffith said.
“Once he recovers from that surgery, we’ll begin to progress him through the first stages of his knee rehab.”
