MELBOURNE has secured the services of former Giant Adam Tomlinson, as the unrestricted free agent signed with the club on Monday afternoon.

The 26-year-old, who has spent the past eight seasons playing for GWS, has decided to return home to Victoria to continue his career.

Tomlinson, known for his elite endurance, is a player who will perform an important role for the Demons in 2020 and beyond.

“We’re very excited to add Adam to our list as a free agent – he fills a very important need for our team,” General Manager of Football Operations Josh Mahoney told Melbourne Media.

“He’s played a number of different roles for the Giants, but predominantly what we’re looking for is someone who can run up and down the MCG on the wing.

“Adam is an elite runner and at 194cm, he has the versatility to provide us with a number of options, either forward or back.

“With 140 games experience, including the last four finals series, Adam complements the age and games profile of our list and we think he can have an immediate impact.”

Tomlinson is a durable player who has missed just two matches in the past three years, and has experience performing at the pointy end of the season.

The former Giant has played in 10 finals, including this year’s Grand Final loss to Richmond where he had the opportunity to run out on the biggest stage in footy.

Tomlinson was initially recruited with pick No.9 in the 2011 National Draft and debuted in GWS’ inaugural side in Round 1 of the 2012 season.

He averaged 17 disposals from his 25 games in 2019 and should transition smoothly into Melbourne’s midfield when he pulls on the red and blue next season.
